Afghanistan RugsAfghanistan's production of area rugs is limited to geometric and tribal designs, the most common being the Bohkara/Turkemon. The antique Afghani Turkemon used natural dyes and the red color can be similar to an antique Herez. The modern Turkemon is a more true red. Belouchistan is another very common Afghani rug. The prices of the Turkemon and Belouchistan should be very moderate. Most Afghani rugs are made on a wool foundation whereas Persian & Pakistani Bohkara's are woven on a cotton foundation. Approximately ten years ago, Afghani war rugs were very collectable. These smaller sized rugs had a war theme with different weapon designs and symbols. Area Rugs - Countries of Origin |
